As part of the redesign of my site I have been looking at rebuilding my photo galleries. For my blog I have found DM Albums which is a plugin for wordpress, which has been a great find. For my photo galleries I have decided to use the photo exhibition plugin for lightroom. One of the challenges of using this method is how to combine vertical and horizontal orientated photos in the same gallery. In fact this even extends to any photo that is not similar in orientation or ratio. How do we take these range of images types and present them in a gallery where each image is shown in a flattering way comparable to the rest.
The answer I have found so far is using the print module in lightroom to prepare the images for the gallery. I found this excellent guide to the Print Module by Chris Orwig, it covers the option available and how to use them in ways that the designers probably didn’t expect.
I especially like tip 8 – adding a creative border, could you even use this for a multiple image layout? That sounds like something worth trying
